GANDHI FOR THE YOUNG

A WORKSHOP ON “GANDHI FOR THE YOUNG

WORKSHOP COORDINATOR: PROFESSOR AVIJIT PATHAK

SEPTEMBER-28-29 (2PM TO 6.30PM) / NEW DELHI

We live in an extremely violent world. With hyper-masculine aggression, technological domination, neoliberal developmentalism, media simulations and ecologically destructive consumerism–we find ourselves in a world that seems to devalue all higher principles for creating an egalitarian/peaceful/ ecologically sensitive world characterized by a non-violent art of resistance. Under these circumstances, what does it mean to invoke Gandhi, and rediscover him in our times?

Hence, The New Leam seeks to initiate this workshop. The whole idea is to sensitize the youth, and encourage them to engage with Gandhi–his ‘experiments’, his nuanced practices in the domain of religiosity and politics, his vision of swaraj and self-reliance, and his prophetic insights into the discontents of spiritually impoverished modernity

The New Leam will conduct the workshop with 15 college/university students (or, others interested in the theme).

The workshop will be coordinated by Professor Avijit Pathak (CSSS/SSS/JNU).

It will be held in New Delhi; and the participants will be informed of the venue before the workshop.

Those who are eager to participate in the workshop are required to send their details, and an essay (not more than 1000 words) on their understanding of Gandhi before September 06, 2019 to thenewleam@gmail.com

The selected participants have to be present in both the days of the workshop.
