It’s for the second time in this month that there is positive news on that front by one of the key vaccine manufacturers Moderna. Moderna has gone ahead and said that its shots will provide a powerful protection against the infection and will be quite effective. We know that this ray of positivity and hope is coming at a time when the whole world is grappling with the coronavirus crisis and the infections have been surging at a high rate especially in the United States and other parts of the world. What makes the announcement by Moderna, a special ray of hope in these trying times is the fact that it has said that this vaccine is 94.5% effective in fighting the virus and providing a protection from it.  The company’s research and study on the vaccine is presently gong on. It was only a week ago that competitor Pfizer Inc. announced its own Coronavirus vaccine and promised that its vaccine is similarly effective. It will remain to be seen who brings the coronavirus vaccine into the market first and how the world is able to find a solution to the coronavirus pandemic. Given the fact that there is a gigantic global demand, it will be interesting to see how the race for producing and bringing out a vaccine into the public domain for widespread consumption is undertaken, because it will require many vaccine makers to meet the global demand. A vaccine is needed on an urgent basis and cases have topped 11 million in the United States of America through the weekend. The United Stated of America recorded more than 1 million infections in just one week and the virus killed more than 1.3 million people throughout the world. More than 245,000 of them have been recorded in the US. Both the vaccine companies have designed them in a way that a recipient will need to take two shots, spread across many weeks. It is expected that Moderna will produce 20 million doses targeted for the United States of America by the end of 2020. It is expected that its German partner, BioNTech will produce 5o million doses across the globe. The Moderna Vaccine has been created with the National Institute of Health. For the testing of the vaccine,  a study was conducted on 30,000 people. It will be interesting to see what the Moderna vaccine’s arrival means for the global pandemic crisis and it will also be interesting to see how long the vaccine provides protection for. The vaccine has presently shown side effects on several patients like injection aches, tiredness and muscle discomfort. The Cambridge, Massachusetts company produced vaccine is among the 11 vaccines that have been tested across the world and four out of these vaccines have been studied in great detail in the US. With vaccine brands  fighting out each other to produce the most effective vaccine, it will be interesting to see who wins the race first and who finds the solution to the problem before the others.
